Practice Photography With a Monday to Friday Habit of Using CameraAce

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that with the advent of smartphones, most people today enjoy photography and the only thing preventing people from getting more out of it is time. You may be a full-time mom, entrepreneur, office worker, or a professional with lots to do but you enjoy photography so much and wish you had the time to do it. And you’re wondering, how will I ever find time to learn and take photos given my busy schedule?

Here’s a solution you can try. We call it the Monday-Friday Project. It’s a project that anyone can do, regardless of how busy you are. All you need is your trusty smart phone and the CameraAce app. The idea of this project is that you take a couple of minutes each day to take photos of what you like based on set themes. It will be something different each day of the week. It can be people during Mondays, nature during Tuesdays, and so on. Since it’s a Monday to Friday project, you will end up having at least 5 photos in a week. It’s a great way to learn photography while going through your usual routine. Here’s how to do it:

You can choose a theme where you include objects you see around the house.
Example of Still Life Texture on Mondays.

Step 1: Choosing your daily themes

Choose a specific preset or theme for each day of the week. It would be good to choose your presets based on the type of photography you want to improve on or take more photos of. For example, if you want to improve more on your people photography and using different filters you can choose to take photos of Babies, Fashion, Faces, and other similar themes on separate days. If you want to learn how to take photos of everyday objects you try this kind of setup: Still Life Patterns or Texture on Mondays, Nature on Tuesdays, Architecture on Wednesdays, Random Shots on Thursdays, and Street photography on Fridays.

It is also important that you choose themes that are doable and within your capacity. If you live in the city and far from nature, choosing Landscape or Wildlife as a theme will only increase your chance of missing the daily shot. This will only discourage you in the long run. Therefore, choose something that you can surely accomplish because it’s part of your daily routine like cityscapes or street photography.

If you pass by a park, pond, or anywhere where there’s
a little green each day, you can include nature in your list of themes.

Step 2: Create your Five presets in CameraAce

Once you’ve decided which theme to use, create your 5 presets. It’s important to keep a separate preset for your project from your other photography themes to avoid confusion. Let’s say you already have Portrait as a preset but would be including Portrait as your theme, you can create a new preset called Mon-Portrait to indicate that you need to take a portrait of someone every Monday. In fact, it would be good to name your preset with the Day-Theme format so you would easily locate it on the day you need it.

Do you get to see buildings everyday?

Select the appropriate filters, frames, and other options available in CameraAce to customize your themes. Choose frames and filters that that will work for you based on the theme you selected. For example, if you choose to take portraits, it will be good to use filters like Normal or Beauty. You can also experiment by trying something new. Perhaps you haven’t tried Black and White or HDR when taking street photos or architecture. There is a difference in shooting portraits of Black and White since it is more particular with tone and contrast compared to just a normal filter. And since projects like these are usually meant for you to discover and learn more about photography,  just go ahead and choose something you haven’t tried before. Anyway, you may opt to change this later until you find one that you like to use regularly.

Set your filters and frames in your theme presets.
You can choose the same for all presets or different ones for each day.

Step 3: Decide on the Duration

How long you want to do the project this is up to you. The best time to do this is between 4 to 6 weeks. This gives you enough motivation to complete the project around 20 to 30 photographs to choose from after you complete your shots.

If this is your first time to create a photo-project, it is best to limit your time to a few weeks to encourage you to do more. Once you’ve completed the project, you may decide to do the same project for a longer time.

Set a day where you can take anything at Random.

Final Step

The final step is you actually taking photos. While you can take as many photos as you want during the day. It would be great to keep only one that you like best and use that as your photo for the day. You can opt to share your photographs with your friends at the end of each week via social media to update them of your progress in the project. This is a great way to keep in track. By the end of your project, you will have a new collection of photographs despite your busy schedule.

Choose a theme that gives you a lot of options for subjects like this one.

When you don’t find enough time to do photography, creating a photography activity like this Monday-Friday project allows you to take a few minutes of your time each day to photograph something you like. Photography is one way to express yourself and it could also be therapy against a stressful day.  Aside from this, doing the Monday-Friday project forces you to be creative at the same time allows you to find beautiful things to shoot around you while doing your normal regular routines.
